Bringing JOSS back?

The last time we did JOSS was back in 2010, after that I decided that the event needed a break as all locations had been filmed on so much over the past few years. Coming into this year I wanted to bring it back but I did not manage to find enough funding for it, that is until yesterday when I had a very interesting call. So todays mission is to put together a budget for JOSS and see what it would cost to make this happen. Everything is far from set, but I am still excited as I would love to do this event again, for sure one of the most fun projects that I have been a part of.

If I would do it again I would most likely move on from the country based teams and where I invited skiers and they got to set up the teams. This time I would rather contact the biggest ski film companies and invite them and let them decide what skiers to bring, just to be able to put more focus on the filming and creativity of the sport, something that I think is great to push for on a year like this with Olymipics and stock runs having such a big focus!

Will keep you guys posted, but feel free to hit me up with any ideas that you would like to see at JOSS if we can bring it back this year! Lets prey that we can make this happen!

Have you searched the internet forr a legitimate work from home business opportunity.
If this is you, youu may want to consider a position that feeds this need.
Cleaning companies use their own cleaning equipments and skilled personnel who
    can easily operate them.

Compulsory woman per team. Much like your rookie initiative. I think women’s skiing has taken huge strides in the last 18 months!

  3. Im impressed, I have to say. Actually hardly ever do I encounter a weblog thats both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. Your concept is excellent; the difficulty is one thing that not sufficient persons are speaking intelligently about. I am very blissful that I stumbled throughout this in my seek for one thing relating to this.

  4. It is appropriate time to make some plans for the longer term and it is time to be happy. I have learn this put up and if I may I want to suggest you few fascinating issues or advice. Maybe you could write next articles relating to this article. I wish to read even more issues about it!

I say that you do countries and NS team etc. like before, just because film companies have already been filming all year on unique setups, whereas we rarely get to see contest riders on unique features anymore

By the way, this is in my opinion the best video for it’s time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_94WfIJ4z8M .

I still know the full song lyrics today..

  7. Simen says:

Fuck i’ve been waiting for this for four years!!

Sickest event of all time, used to watch every single video from those back in the day!

  8. B says:

Maybe have film companies compete……. (Level 1 vs. Poorboyz vs. stept …. etc… then have a few video qualifiers for teams and one NS team..) Or making every team put out a vieo qualification… that way you really get the best of the best…

    Either way… BRING IT BACK!

JOSS is by far my favorite freeski event of all time. I also love the idea of giving the filmmakers more exposure, even though I´m not entirely sure that letting the biggest production companies get all of it is the way to go.
Maybe you could give a few spots to already known productions companies and then leave a few spots open to have a videoqualifier for filmers, like you used to have for the skiers.
As for the skiers, it would be really great to see a formula for the judging that encourages creativity more, not just diffrent grabs on big rotations. Style is a very subjective formula to judge from but then again, so is film. For example one can really enjoy a movie while another one hates it and that is why I believe that JOSS could break new ground as a format for judging style in a diffrent way than what is possible in regular contests.

Since 2010 freeskiing has evolved alot. It seems to me that people are more speciallized in one “genre” now a days. All the best skiers are not in the contest scene, some are instead filming all year and puts out banger segments at the end of the year. Involve some of these skiers and try to get a mix of the best and most creative minds in freeskiing, from urbanskiers to jumpskiers and railskiers, and not just those who has the greatest contest results. Get a mix between all types and you the reboot of JOSS will once again become the best freeski event of them all!

To finnish this essay off I would like to share one of my all time favorite , JOSS 2009:

  10. Fuck yeah ! It would be such contributing to the scene again to have the JOSS film-competition back. Especially with the idea of heaving the film companies deciding what riders there should be invited. Maybe getting AM Film Crews involved too ? Just like in the style of last joss having pro skiers with their little am in it.

  11. [...] to a blog post on Jon Olsson’s website, there’s a chance that Jon Olsson Super Sessions (JOSS) will make a return for the 13/14 [...]

  12. Sander says:

Yeah, would be so awesome! My friend is a pro from Team USA is still one of my favourite skiing tunes ;)

  13. Alexander says:

You should bring it back! :)

  14. Rambo says:

Just going to put my 2 cents in…

I think it was so good because skiers got so much say in the videos, it allowed the skiers to be creative in a whole other way. If it were film companies doing it they would be on the conservative side and you wouldn’t get all the fun, creativeness the skiers brought to it.

So yeah, my vote would be to leave it to the skiers, we see videos by film companies anytime. Never see them made by the actual skiers in the video

  15. Christian says:

JOSS!Please bring it back ! it’s so much better than other JOI

  16. Kjell says:

  18. driver says:

Sounds like a great idea! About ski movies… In your opinion, what is THE BEST ski movie out there? (action, photage, music…skiers!!)

  19. Sondre says:

    cant wait! so stoked

  20. Sondre says:

    I LOVE IT!
The second year I skied was when JOSS hit it of hard, and that really inspired me.
Now I’m skiing around 100 days a year, and I probably wouldn’t have realised how fun it was without JOSS.
Thanks for making it happen again!

  21. Monne says:

Some G.N.A.R insperation (the real not like KAS) would be nice. G.N.A.R at Olympics

  22. Zach says:

Stoked that its back. How about instead of bringing in the biggest companies (who already can fill their movies with bangers of high-profile athletes), you fly out the small guys and up and comers like (now defunct)Toy Soldiers Productions, Ski-fi, travelling circus, etc. These are the guys who are largely defining the style for the next generation and are, in my opinion, much more exciting to watch.

    Excited either way though!

  23. Oskar says:

YEEES!! Best event in the history of skiing!!

  24. Alex says:
