I was looking through a bunch of old pics today and thought that I would gather all the "skiboxed" cars and give you a little history behind the different them!
The initial idea of a ski box on a sports car came about when I had a few (a lot) of beers with a friend and we started talking about how funny it would look to put rally wheels and raise a Gallardo to make it look like a rally car. We than came into the idea of a ski box and in the beginning it was just us joking around but after a while I thought, why not! I always loved doing things that no one else would do so this seemed like a perfect plan!
So looking back I am super happy that I was stupid enough to start doing it as I now love that it enables me to bring these sweet cars to the ski hill! And it was extra funny to see Koenigsegg putting a box on their Agera R as I knew that the idea must have come from someone that had already done that for a few years!
Below is a little caption of the cars:
The original Gallardo! I think this was back in 2007 if I remember correctly. Stock 2004 Gallardo with a custom wrap and Tubi race exhaust.
I then traded that in for this Murcielago LP 640. Stock with staright race pipes!
That was than traded in for the LP670 SV that was used during two Gumballs, but unfortunately this one did not get to go skiing to much as I knew the miles was a bit high already! Stock with straight pipes!
So I sold that and got myself a Nissan GT-R as I wanted to be able to drive it every day and not worry about the miles! The winter I had this one I drove 50 000km so I think it was a smart plan to put the miles on this one rather than a 670 SV as that would have killed its value! Loved every second in this car, it truly is an amazing machine. During Gumball the box was tested in 292km/h, I am not sure how fast the K egg has tested its box at but I think the 292 could be the WR for a ski box car?
I did however miss the crazy look of Lambos so I went back to basics with another Gallardo, this time tweeked with a DMC body kit and a better earodynamic fitting of the box! We did 260km/h in this one and the box stayed on! This was well used as well as we put 40000km on it in a winter!
I then decided to sell the Gallardo as I saw that PPI kit for the R8. Took me a while to build it as theis is by far the most custom cars out of all of the ones I have had, but it has made up for it with a Gumball and a lot of time in the snow!
And as you have seen it recently got a new wrap for this winter. It was planned to be sold but as I have yet to get a good offer I will just keep it until I get one, and I will admit that I did not regret keeping it when I was driving around last week!
Have a few new "back up" cars being worked on at the moment so stay tuned for those! Time for me to head to the gym and keep working hard so I can keep playing with things like this!
